How to lose weight forever and eat a lot by Peter Elms
Do you love to eat a lot? I do. If you are like me you can sit down and kill an entire pizza, a huge bowl of ice cream, or a half a bag of chips without thinking about it. If normal attempts to "diet" leave you hungry and craving another plate of food, keep reading. I am going to share a number of great ways to stay healthy, lose weight, and eat a lot when the idea of a skinless chicken breast with a side of broccoli sounds like a quick snack at best, not a dinner.
Successfully losing weight and maintaining healthy weight starts with understanding the foods you eat and the reality of serving size. The other day, my wife looked up the number of calories in a single chicken wing at a certain restaurant. It was 100! At that rate 4 or 5 wings when they are also very full on fat and low on nutrients and fiber is not a great choice! Or, how about the pita bread I looked up the other day. Now I know you are thinking pita bread can't be that bad! Well, some is and some isn't. This particular one had a pretty good density to it and a bit of butter. It was 230 calories for a half of one. Ouch! I could have easily eaten two of them and been over 900 calories! That is like a full meal at a fast food restaurant! I am not saying that you should count calories. I don't and I never have. What I AM sayings don't waste them in 500+ calorie chunks that just make no sense. Check out the nutrition on some of then popular gas station pastries and snacks. It is unreal. You could blow a half a day or calories in a 5 or 6 bite bear claw ornsomething like that. Just don't go there.
What are some great things to chow down on? Here are a few I really like:
Try a turkey melt. I like to take some good whole grain hearty bread (check the labels and go for under 90 calories a slice with at least 3 grams of fiber). Then load on a good healthy stack of wafer thin turkey, a slice of 2% Swiss or Colby, some good mustard and a bit of pickle, tomato, or whatever you like. Then cook it like a grilled cheese in a pat of smart balance light spread or a drizzle of olive oil. Serve with a whole can of healthy soup, or some baked chips, some pretzels, and maybe some mini carrots. You can get all this for as little as 500 calories and literally be completely satisfied!
Try the same thing but as a tuna melt! Just use some fat free honey mustard and relish instead of mayo and go for it. Protein packed, hearty and healthy. You will be full for sure!
Try making pizza on a tortilla shell instead of a pizza crust. Many pizza crusts have as much as a 1000 calories! MY whole family loves this alternative and the whole family gets and individual pizza. Just use a large burrito/ tortilla and spread on some sauce, toppings of your choice, and sprinkle with 2% cheese. Then bake at 400 for 8 to 10 minutes until super crispy and cheese is melted. These are GOOD! And, the whole pizza is lower in carbs and around 450 calories. That is around a piece and a half of other pizza! You could eat two of these tortilla pizzas and be better off than you would be after a few slices of traditional pizza.
One last one... I love salads. Make a big, delicious one! I use spinach but you can also use mixed greens or whatever. I put in some calmatta olives, peppers, banana peppers, cucumber, feta cheese, a small amount of pine nuts (a few go a long way of flavor!), some black pepper,and something with a bit of crunch (try a small handful of cheese its). pour on some light or even fat free dressing and shake it all up as a tossed salad! Delicious! You can use almost a half a bag of spinach in these bad boys and feel great and be completely satisfied.
Enjoy! The key is to understand what you are eating and avoid huge caloric surges in favor of equally filling alternatives. Don't let yourself be hungry while you are losing weight. Eat a lot! Focus on food you like that are lower in calories so you can fill your stomach with faster burning, protein rich foods with a healthy but managed balance of carbs and vegetables.
Most importantly, if you are hungry, eat something! Just don't down a quarter of a chocolate cake when you can eat a large bowl of chocolate frozen yogurt at a fraction of the calories. Also, use a mental trick that like of imaging a brick of food in your so mach and how you fill feel after you eat it. Do you really want to feel like crud? No? Then keep it lighter and keep learning about what you are eating. It will keep you healthy for life.
