Timber Floor- Choosing The Right Kind Of Wood    by Jeff Raimon

The whole idea of having the home fitted with the right kind of structuring material may put a lot of pressure on the home owner. It is therefore apparent that he gains enough knowledge about the best kind of material to use for his home. Wooden flooring is one of the warmest and most comfortable type of flooring that a person can have in the house. Nevertheless, there are a number of ideas that a person needs to have before making the decision on which kind of timber flooring option to go for.

1. The right color for timber
The tree age is the defining factor behind the color of a piece of wood. Though the species may be the same, the house owner may find that there is a variation in the colors that are being used for his timber. The younger the tree, the lighter the color of the timber. The older it gets, the more the tree's color becomes dense. Having some knowledge on that, there may be a variation to the color of timber used, unlike what someone may view in the showrooms, or websites. The owner should be aware of this.

2. Treatment processes
Treating the wood is a requirement for most of the trees. Trees like sapwood need this for long life. Each country has its own regulations concerning the treatment of timber used for construction. This is because untreated wood may become weak, making it easy to decay and possibly cause damage. The down side to treatment is that sometimes, it will tarnish the original color of the piece of wood.

3. Take care of the species
Depending on which kind of species you will choose, the timber floor material will range in sensitivity. The harder the floor, the more resilient it is to the exterior force against it, and vice versa. This means that the softwood species needs to be dealt with in a more sensitive manner. There are some treatment procedures that are put in place that make the softwood trees more resilient. But generally speaking, if they are exposed to abrasion, scratches and indention for a longer period of time, they will become weaker and eventually wear out.

There are people who tend to think that vanish or flooring finish can harden the wood used. This is not the case, but the wood used will be protected from scratched and abrasion at a higher level.
